Learn from the pros!
We will hear from University of Texas at Arlington Senior Lecturer of Public Relations, Mindia Whittier. ( I will send bio soon!) She will distinguish between great, helpful internship programs, and those that are not so great…through the eyes of interns and educators.
We will also learn from Kristin Wallach, the Human Resource Manager and organizer of the Concussion agency’s distinguished internship program. She will describe the interview process, placement and projects that interns at her agency experience.
Kristin was the Director of Marketing and Corporate Sponsorship at the Fort Worth Zoo prior to moving to Concussion (she worked at the Zoo for 10 years), and oversaw marketing, public relations, special events and corporate sponsorship. During her time at the Zoo, she managed the marketing/sponsorship team (including Mindia!), and raised more than $3 million in sponsorship dollars and opened more than 10 new exhibits including Meerkat Mounds, Penguin Island, Komodo Dragons, Thundering Plains and Texas Wild. She was also part of the team who concepted, planned and implemented the first years of Boo at the Zoo, the Zoo Run and the Annual Golf Tournament, all of which continue to be popular events.
In 2002, she transitioned to the advertising agency world and moved to Concussion LLP. Kristin worked as a Senior Account Executive for 7 years handling a variety of accounts including Choctaw Casino, Dickey’s Barbeque, Williams Trew Real Estate, City Place and the Fort Worth Zoo. She transitioned to the HR Manager position 3 years ago, and now oversees the intern program as well as management training and employment recruitment.
After this mini-seminar, we will all have a better understanding of successful internship programs and how non-profits can use them, as a win/win experience for the student and organization!
